"God is up to something big when he plants his dreams in our hearts, and it’s so much bigger than us. If we were able to achieve our calling in our own strength, we would readily take and receive the glory." - Megan Miller
When Brian and I first felt called to adopt we knew it would be an unpredictable journey, but we took comfort in the fact that God already knew the outcome. I remember feeling like God would rock our world if we'd only let Him. For sure God has already made himself known to us throughout the adoption process.
If you are unfamiliar with our story we made the decision to adopt from Ethiopia less than 6 months ago in December 2010. Fast forward past all the paperwork, homestudy, fingerprinting to just a few weeks ago when the Democratic Republic of Congo was pressed upon both my husband's and my heart. The very day our hearts were aching for the Congo was the day we made the ET wait list. After researching, talking and lots of prayer we decided to stop our Dossier from heading to Ethiopia. We didn't know why God was causing us to both feel so strongly about withdrawing from the ET program to the Congo program, but we had faith that it was all part of His plan from day 1. Just days after our decision to switch programs I was e-mailed a picture of a waiting baby girl in Africa. After asking for more information we soon learned that she was in the Congo! It's all making sense now why God was leading our hearts in this new direction. He has been leading us all along to our precious daughter!
Our daughter is considered a "waiting child" so we are acting as fast as we can to get to her. We've signed on with a new agency (because our last didn't have a Congo program), updated our homestudy and completed the new Dossier but in order for the Dossier to be sent over to be processed in the Congo we must accompany it with a $7500 check.
It's time to get real with you all. We've invested as much as we possibly can at this point in the adoption. It breaks my heart that we have come to this point in our journey, seen our daughter's face and now the paperwork needed to bring her home won't leave the country without money. I know God will provide a way because he has brought us this far and it's HIS time to shine through what seems to be a devastatingly huge obstacle.
I'm hoping and praying that my plea will fall upon softened hearts and receptive ears. When we were first called to adopt the thought of asking for financial help made me cringe... but now it's personal. We are talking about my daughter. My 8 month old, beautiful bald headed, brown skinned baby girl who is sitting in an orphanage in the Congo this very moment. I understand that not everyone can give a financial donation, but you can pray, you can blog, or share in whatever way possible. God planted this big dream in our hearts and I know with His strength we will achieve our goal for His glory.
